How your body burns calories (metabolism) slows down as you age. If meals and snacks continue as age but physical activities decrease, you will gain weight. To maintain a healthy weight you must stay active and eat healthy.

Things you can do to maintain a Healthy Weight

Regular physical activity

    • Walking
    • Swimming
    • Jogging
    • Tennis
    • Any other activity that you enjoy

Eat a healthy diet – choose foods from each of the Six Caribbean Food groups

    • Choose vegetables – all types
    • Fruits – all types
    • Whole grains
    • High-fiber foods – fruits, vegetables, cereals, whole grains
    • Lean sources of protein, such as fish.
    • Limit sugar
    • Limit foods high in saturated fat and cholesterol
      • Fast foods
      • Processed foods
      • Fried foods
      • Cakes, breads, pastries, etc
    • Watch portion sizes to maintain a healthy amount of calories
